Polo Pasión Photography: Polo - The Sport
POLO - PAST & PRESENT
• Polo is thought to have originated roughly 2000 years ago in China and Persia.

• Today, the game is now played in 77 countries around the globe.
• There are many clubs in England, but Guards Polo Club at Smith’s Lawn near Windsor holds a special place in my heart, as it is a friendly club and where I first truly realised my ‘pasión’ for the equestrian sport of polo.
ABOUT POLO
The majority of Polo ponies are pure Thoroughbreds.
Polo is played on: Grass, Snow, In an Arena, On a beach

In England, polo players generally tend to play Polo throughout the Summer, then in the middle to the end of September they travel to the other side of the globe to the sun i.e.: Argentina, New Zealand and Australia. Other polo players prefer to go where the snow is i.e.: Cortina, in Italy or St. Moritz in Switzerland.
THE YOUNG POLO PONY
A young polo pony practises and learns by joining in the chukkas, to build up experience, confidence and also physical fitness. They may just canter around in the background to begin with until the owner/rider feels confident that the pony is up to the correct standard to play alongside others.
POLO SAFETY
In Polo, it is extremely important that every player is aware of each other and in full control of their pony. Safety at all times is paramount, due to the speed and nature of the game.
